Winter is a time of cold, wet and rainy. Or freezing and muddy, depending on how you look at it. Which means making excuses NOT to go to football training with your kids, although you're more than happy to drop them off at the gate! Or you could just make excuses about why you should all stay at home, snuggled under a blanket in front of a decent DVD. I refer to this as "quality time" with your children, as, lets face it, who wants to be out in the cold when you can be snuggled up warm and having lots of cuddles. But, of course, that guilty feeling creeps in. You're lazing about. You're not getting anything done. And you're not doing anything stimulating or educational with your children - and you know that that's just not ok at all! And then there's all the housework stuff that needs doing. Guilty on all counts. So what do you do? If its cold, you might as well make the most of it. Sure, you could go to the snow. Or you could do something that will make you feel less guilty. Like washing the car for example. Sure, there's water restrictions, but hopefully there's also rain. Dress the kids in their bathers, get the car washing cloths and get out there and have some fun. Rain provides the rinse cycle for the car wash. There, the car looks clean (finally!) you've saved some water and you've all had loads of fun together. Well, you've been enjoying watching them from inside the house while they wash the car. Of course, even though its cold and the clothes just aren't drying on the line, the washing still needs to be done. Entertain the kids while educating them at the same time with Sock Sorting. Younger kids get to learn colours, patterns and matching. Matching correctly, that is. Older kids can have Sock Sorting & Folding Races. Still older kids can then have Post Sock Sorting Sock Wars. That should keep them out of your hair for some time. There. You've survived Winter Guilt. You've successfully managed to keep the kids entertained whilst at the same time completing your dialy requirements and educating them at the same time. No one can have a go at you for managing all of that!
