If you are a member of a Mother’s Group, you will have a run of 1st birthday parties, I know I did with my kids. And here is my dilemma, what do I buy for a 1 year old? Especially a 1 year old who has everything! Here are some ideas I came up with, I hope they will help you too: • Helium Balloons – these are fantastic, especially if the child is having his or her birthday at a play centre or a park. You can tie them to the Birthday Child’s clothes and Mummy can see exactly where they are, as well as providing entertainment when they get home. • Touch and Feel Books – these books are great. Nathaniel was given a set of 4 books. Until then, he wasn’t all that interested in books, now he loves sitting looking at the pictures and running his hands over the pages! • Books – I go by the philosophy that a child can never have too many books! There are some fantastic books for children available, and the books don’t have to be for a 1 year old. Kids have many years to enjoy books, so you can always give them something they will enjoy when they’re older. • Clothes – these can be a good gift, I suggest getting an outfit for the next season or next year. Most 1 year olds have piles of clothes for the current season, and I’m sure Mum will appreciate having clothes for the next year. I don’t recommend buying toys as a lot of 1 year olds already have a lot of toys, unless you have a specific toy that you know the child will like and doesn’t already have! One year olds don’t need a lot. First birthday parties are more for the parents to celebrate getting through the first year – hey, why not buy a present for the parents instead.
