Introducing your daughter to a skin care regime

By: Boudoir Bazaar

By Nicola Pitt

My daughters are both going to be teenagers soon, and knowing how harsh our environment is, I looked around for skin care products suited to young skin.

I tried a heap (having used lots of different ones myself) but trying to read through the list of ingredients can give you such a headache. Talking to other mums of girls, they talked about reactions, ranging from red skin to eczema. What is a mum to do?

The more I looked, the more discomforted I became. The chemicals used in so many of them are known to be carcinogenic or considered to increase the risk. Items such as FD & C,which are created from Coal Tar!

As a result I started to investigate many of the natural and organic skin care programs. I found that many were expensive, did not offer enough information about the product itself including how to use it…..essential for a young girl looking to have healthy skin to last a lifetime!

So here are my top tips for helping your daughter on this path.

1.Look for a natural alternative. Read the labels thoroughly to see what is actually in it.

2.If in doubt – don’t buy it.

3.Find a great resource on the net of what each ingredient is (I like http://www.health-report.co.uk/ingredients-directory.htm) and use it regularly to check them out.

4.When you do buy a product spot test first – that way if your daughter does have a reaction it is in a small area not her face!

5.Search out the name of the company and their website before you buy. These can sometimes give clues about how to deal with reactions etc.,

6.Can’t find what you want? Try the auction sites! Lots of great products that are natural are listed on Oztion and to a lesser extent on Ebay.

7.Don’t just reach for the expensive ones in the Department store – stop and consider the number of chemical ingredients in those that keep them long lasting not to mention to perfume them and change the colour.

Til next time,

Enjoy your Boudoir!
