Hiring Baby Goods

By: Melissa Khalinsky

Before Nathaniel was born, Hubby and I were walking around the baby shops in despair looking at the prices of everything! Having a baby is expensive!

We were given a second hand car seat, one of those convertible ones. It had been sitting in our friends' garage for some time and was slightly mouldy in the straps. We cleaned it up, but there was still some evidence the mould was there. (We have since cleaned it up and it's a great spare car seat!) As a result, we were told the seat was unable to be installed, however we could get new straps for the seat - in 6 months!

In desperation we started hunting for a baby capsule, as I was 7 and a half months pregnant! We couldn't believe the prices! And it was just before Christmas, we didn't have a spare $300 for a car seat.

I recalled a conversation we had wit h a friend about hiring a baby capsule, so I spent a couple of hours going through the Yellow Pages ringing baby goods hire places. I was lucky enough to find a brand new baby capsule for a six month hire, for a fraction of the cost of buying a one, then not having to worry about storing it when Nathaniel grew out of it!

I only wish we had known about hiring baby goods before we bought our bassinette!

Since then, we have also hired an exer-saucer, and we have also hired a pram and car seat when we go interstate.

I highly recommend hiring items, like baby capsules, that your baby will use for such a short period of time and are quite bulky to store!
