Faking it with Alcohol

By: Melissa Khalinsky

The reasons for not drinking while pregnant are well documented, especially during the first trimester.

Many parents decide to wait until 3 or 4 months pregnant before they announce their pregnancy to the world.

So, how do you hide the fact you are pregnant at parties and other functions where there is alcohol?

Here are some ideas to help you.

- Order Vodka and Orange (or other mixed drink), hold the Vodka!
- Say you are recovering from a stomach bug and alcohol upsets your stomach .
- Get your own drinks, or get your partner to get them for you.
- Have soft drinks in a wine glass, some look like alcohol!
- If you do end up with a glass of champagne or wine, sip it very slowly, and then put it down somewhere, especially if it is a stand and mingle type party. - At most gatherings, people don't notice if you're on your first glass or fifth .
- Say you're not in the mood to drink
- If it's the right time of year, say you've given up alcohol for Lent!
- Have your partner drink his wine, and switch glasses!
- Say that you are on medication that can't be mixed with alcohol
- Be the Designated Driver
- If everyone is drinking beer, get a bottle and dump the beer. Fill the bottle with water, and continue doing so all night. People won't know the difference.
- Bring a non-alcoholic punch to a BYO drinks party
- Tell people you are trying to conceive and are not drinking
- Say you're still hung over from the night before and don't want to get any more dehydrated, thus keeping with your "Party Girl" image.

We hope these ideas help you, and you have a wonderful night out.
