Christmas is a busy time of year. For many parents, December is full of Christmas break ups, school functions, work functions, either for ourselves or our partners, Christmas shopping, family functions and more. Often in the midst of all this, it's easy for our businesses to get pushed to the side and can almost grind to a stop, and then starting up again in January may be an uphill climb. It doesn't have to be like this. Christmas Events The number of events we are expected to attend can be overwhelming. This can cause a lot of stress on us, and our families and businesses. The first thing is to look at the invitations you have received. Evaluate what is important, and what isn't. Your child's school concert may be important to you and your family, however the church lunch may not be as important. Accept only those invitations that are important to you. Christmas Shopping Reduce the stress of last minute Christmas shopping by spreading your shopping over the course of the year. This includes gifts for family and friends, and gifts for your clients. If you aren't sure what clients you are going to purchase gifts for, purchase some general items that can be given to anyone. If you are unable to do your shopping during the year, shop online. For clients, if possible, purchase gifts that can be delivered directly to them, rather than coming to you first. Also, take advantage of free gift wrapping where possible to remove that task from your To Do List. Clients Try not to schedule deadlines in December, and, where possible, reduce your workload so you can spend time with your family and reduce stress with your Christmas preparations. If your Christmas preparations and family time are affecting your work, tell your client the project is being held up. The key with your clients is communication. With a bit of planning, your children, Christmas and business can all run smoothly! Merry Christmas.
