I like shopping. In fact, I don't just like shopping - I love Online Shopping! My wonderful husband introduced me to the joys of Ebay in 2001 and since then I haven't looked back. I buy most of my presents online, many of my clothes and would do the shopping that way too, if I lived somewhere they could be delivered. But with 7 years experience, I have seen the good, the bad and the ugly of online shopping. We all hear about the scams....people spending thousands of dollars and getting nothing for it. This of course only happens to a percentage of people. How to stay safe. How do you intend to pay? Bank Deposit - yep that is a good concept although Credit Card can be safer, but as with all transactions it is not totally safe. Before handing over your hard earned cash, consider a few things first..... What do you know about this person? It if is on Ebay or Oztion you can look up their feedback score - see how they conduct their sales. If there is an issue lots of neutrals or negatives - leave it be. If you are buying an expensive item, should you really buy without seeing the item first? Some places offer an Escrow service. You can check the item before handing over your money. Make sure it is really what you think you are getting. Do your homework - price the items first. And remember if the price you are getting is too good to be true, it probably is not what you think it is. Ask questions - before handing over any cash, contact the seller - if you don't hear back - don't go through with the sale. What is the shipping cost? I hear lots of people thinking they are getting a good deal and then being stung in the shipping costs. Take that into account when weighing up the pros and cons of the deal. Use a reputable company that has contact details, an https (secured) section for entering your payment details.... there are lots of great places to look at their reputation, try www.thebaysidediner.com for lots of great information about online shopping, staying safe buying online and help when it does go wrong. When all is said and done, buying online can be fun and save a few dollars and lots of time, but staying safe online is just as important.
