Boobie, Baby & Business

By: Melissa Khalinsky

When I first started my business, I had a 6 month old who was still fully breastfed (apart from the odd ginger nut biscuit given to him by his Opa!). I continued feeding my son until he was 19 months old. Since my business began, I have had a second child, who I breastfed until he was 23 months old.

At no time has breastfeeding affected my business in a negative way. If there have been networking events I have wanted to attend and they may go beyond feed time, I either express and leave milk with my husband or parents, or I simply bring baby with me.

There have been numerous occasions where I have been feeding baby while talking on the phone to clients, typing e-mails and letters, and chatting on MSN, and the client has been none the wiser. I also did this while feeding my toddler.

I have also found that breastfeeding also gives me an excuse to get away from the computer and other business tasks, and just sit and enjoy my baby. I have also spent many a feed time reading stories and doing craft with my toddler.

It is possible to run a successful business, have a baby, and breastfeed.
