Announcing Our First Pregnancy!

By: Melissa Khalinsky

My husband and I started talking about trying for our first child the following year one Saturday afternoon. The next day I started feeling a bit queasy. By Monday I knew something was up. I was either pregnant, or had the flu!

On Tuesday lunch time, I went to the doctor in my lunch break. The test was positive!!!

My Mother-in-law had got up at our wedding, over 4 years earlier, and said, in her speech , "Hurry up and give me grandchildren, I'm not getting any younger"!! So to tell her (and my parents) we had to do something creative to tell them the good news!

As it was just before Mother's Day, we invited them over for afternoon tea for Mother's Day on Saturday. It was very hard not saying anything to my Mum, but we wanted to tell them all at the same time!

When all our parents had gathered at our place, we gave our mother's t h eir Mother's Day gifts - a bottle, a dummy and a brag book. In the front of the brag book we inserted a page th at said "EDD 10 January 2002" and then signed it with "Mother" and "Father" under our signatures.

It took them all of a minute for the penny to drop. My Mother-in-law cried. My Father-in-law sat there with a huge grin on his face. My parents were very excited.

Nathaniel Efim Khalinsky was born at 3.52pm on 14 January 2002.
